5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Espresso Machine!

I came from another machine that was not a good experience. The only negative with this machine was my fault - I should have bought the barista plus which has the pressure gauge. But now I get to learn how to produce espresso with good taste, crema, and visually appealing.
This machine continually amazes me:
1. The manual actually reads well and has good information.
2. I can EASILY insert/remove the portafilter basket.
3. I use a puck screen, so cleaning the machine after brewing a double shot is a breeze!
4. I can use a fine grind espresso bean and produce a very good shot! The pressurized basket continually produces a shot that's rich in color, taste and appearance. It is very "forgiving" in the amount of coffee used, the actual grind used, and the amount of coffee used. The taste continually amazes me!
5. The non-pressurized basket just blew my mind! The machine I came from would not work at all with a non-pressurized basket. I had to have a bit of help from the support staff, and now am producing shots that have excellent crema, superb taste and rich color. I have learned to use a scale (I use 15 grams of coffee per double-shot, a shot time of 31 seconds - and I can reproduce these results every time!
6. I can produce superb silky frothed mike. The frothing wand REALLY works well!
7. And last but not least - the support staff are excellent! They went above and beyond helping me to learn how to use a bottomless portafilter. I have high respect for the team. Thank you!
I use a scale, timer, dozer, 30lb tamper, good burr grinder, WDT distributor, milk frothing pitcher (I like gadgets!). And even though I don't have a pressure gauge I am learning how to produce excellent expresso and frothed milk (I use Italian sweet creme, but I can use practically anything to froth).
The company is good, the staff superb, and the product is awesome. It would be fun to use the bean-to-cup model, but I don't feel I have to. This machine allows me to have a good cup of espresso and have fun while doing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic machine! Pulls exceptional shots, but read this first!
Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2022

For an entry level machine this is a SUPERB value and will pull exceptionally good shots if you read the directions and follow a few simple universal truths about making espresso. No machine instantly produces great espresso by just pressing a button. Preparation is key, and thats the same whether it's a $100 or $1000 machine. The courseness/fineness of the coffee grounds matter. The amount of coffee you cram into the portafilter matters. Tamping pressure matters. So if you are an absolute beginner, then check out the million videos out there to learn about all the do's/don'ts/variables that go into pulling the perfect espresso shot.
But if this is not your first rodeo, you understand the art of making espresso, and you are just looking for a solid espresso machine for home at a great value, this is the one. I don't need to go into much detail on all the positive aspects noted in the description and in other reviews. It's awesomely slim/compact, heats up quickly, has a large removable water reservoir and very capable steaming wand.
However, a common negative aspect I've seen in a few other reviews relates to experiencing excessive wait times between functions, most notably between ability to pull shots after using the steaming wand. I can say with confidence this is not an issue when armed with a basic understanding of how the machine works and possibly incorporating a small change to the production process. I believe this noted drawback is squarely related to the temperature/heating capacity of the machine. And for this machine, at this price point, what you don't get is an adjustable water temperature setting. Love it or hate it, the machine comes preset for only two temperature levels, one for making espresso, one for making steam via the frothing wand. So if you pull a shot, then steam some milk, then try to immediately go back to pull another shot, you will more than likely encounter the frustration of the "blinking lights" while it tries to cool itself back down to the lower espresso brewing temperature. By itself, this cooling process is exceptionally long, but if you are impatient like me, while all the lights are blinking, you can simply just eject hot water out of the wand (not steam, just hot water...like you're making an americano) and the temperature will quickly lower to enable another shot to be pulled within a few seconds. A few ounces of hot water will be wasted, but thats the tradeoff for saving time. I have had absolutely no issues pulling two espressos back-to-back, then hitting the steam button (i.e., raising the water temp) and frothing milk for both drinks. As for taking too long to heat up, I've never experienced that yet and would certainly recommend returning the machine if that happens to you. The 1450W thermo-block heater in this Wirsh product literally takes 15 seconds or less to be ready to extract.
So for me, this is an exceptionally good espresso maker that sits comfortably on my limited counter space next to my regular drip coffee maker and bean grinder. It looks great, cleans up easily, and consistently delivers a few tasty latte's or cappuccinos a day. I love this machine, especially under $150.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to making espresso

I've owned 5 espresso makers at the under $110 price. This is what $87 ? I'm surprised how much pressure this baby puts out. The secret is finding the fine grind that is fine but not powder but not too course. This is a Wirsh and I happen to have a Wirsh burr grinder, you CANNOT use a blade grinder... Don't waste your time with a blade grinder, you need a consistent, accurate fine grind. The second secret is put a bit of force when you have the ground coffee in the handle, tamp it down. I haven't tried to overload the amount of coffee, til it's more than level and tamp it down, The issue I think you would have doing that would be inferior to kind of level in the handle and tamping it so you have like 3/16ish of an inch space. I think this also because you would be pushing the machine to it's limits, as in, this machine can do 70 to 110 ml when you hold the double shot button down for a few seconds, when the other buttons flash off and on, your good up to 110 ml. But the machine around 95 ml starts to bog down, you will hear a change in how the extraction sounds. At that point your producing light brown foam, not creme. Another benefit of the right amount of tamping is that you have less cleanup of stray coffee on the surface of the extractor on the machine. Overall, my description is: your not producing double strength coffee with this baby. This Wirsh is worth the price, I fix 3 double shots a day using light roast, medium high quality Costa Rica roast, and too damn over-priced medium roast Blue Mountain beans. I get a satisfying balanced flavor with all of them. I can't say there's significant bitterness using this Wirsh when extracting.... again, right grind, a bit of pressure on tamping and don't do the maximum of 110 ml

From the moment I unboxed my new espresso machine, I knew I was in for a treat. The machine boasts a robust build quality that promises durability and longevity. Its sleek design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also adds a touch of elegance to my kitchen counter.
One of the standout features is the sizable water reservoir, which is conveniently large, reducing the frequency of refills and allowing me to entertain guests with back-to-back espressos without interruption. Speaking of espressos, this machine excels at producing them with a rich, creamy texture that you’d expect from a high-end cafĂ©.
In summary, this espresso machine is a blend of form and function, making it a worthwhile investment for any coffee enthusiast looking to elevate their home brewing experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WORTHY upgrade to an already awesome compact espresso machine
Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2023
Style: Home Barista PlusVerified Purchase
Having used & absolutely loved the older model of Wirsh’s compact espresso machine which I ended up gifting to my cousin, I decided to buy the new model when I moved apartments.
Practicing barista skills at home since a few years now and Wirsh has been a solid driver to up my coffee game.
Below is my take on this machine from a snob’s pov. If you aren’t one, GO BUY THIS MACHINE, you’ll love it.
If you are a snob, I will try to list the differences with the older model with pros & cons that I think could help my fellow home baristas make a wise choice.
Pros:
1. A upgraded 20 bar pump with a pressure gauge to assist for that perfect espresso extraction
2. The stainless steel design with a touch screen panel gives an ultra premium look to this machine. It was instantly noticed by friends who came over.
3. Times between espresso extraction and steam preheat is almost under 10 seconds which is a HUGE improvement since I don’t have to wait for 30 seconds to get the steam pumping out of the wand.
4. Steam wand although looks sleek but is powerful enough to create a whirlpool for about 200-250ml milk in the pitcher.
5. Although minor but the steam/water knob has a rubber grip and feels great to control.
6. Anti slippery suction knobs to keep the machine in position while locking & unlocking the portafilter
7. Portafilter is redesigned to give a more professional look.
8. Water dispersion from shower screen is even which gives a good body to the espresso extraction process.
9. Tamper is now a solid metal spoon with a heavy base instead of a plastic one which can easily de shape after some months of use.
10. The portafilter basket now comes with a max indicator which the older model missed making the judgement relatively easier.
Cons:
1. The portafilter feels lighter than previous model and I wish it was more sturdier like before.
2. The maximum angle of steam wand could have been more obtuse. A restricted steam wand angle could need more hands on experience for swirling the milk for latte art. Does that mean it is bad? NOT AT ALL; I was able to get a decent latte art using the existing maximum angle of the steam wand.
3. The spoon size of the tamper is smaller. This is subjective and is not a deal breaker. I used the spoon to carve melon balls for my cocktail … lol.
4. The max indicator on the portafilter could be deceiving as I was having some trouble locking it in when filled up to the max indicator.
So far this has been a great espresso machine wrt quality, looks & price. Better coffee beverages is more savings by avoiding trips to cafes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Espresso just like Italy.

After traveling to Italy and finding out that I REALLY enjoy an espresso in the afternoon for a quick pick-me-up, I knew I just had to have a machine a home. After a lot of research (and a FLASH sale price) I took a chance with this relatively inexpensive machine.
All I can say is "WOW"! This produces an exquisite cup of coffee. Beautiful crema and a robust cup of coffee that is equal to the best barista coffee I had in restaurants and cafes all through Italy. Easy to use and not too fiddly in terms of measuring and fussing to find the right combination of coffee dose and tamp pressure.
Just combine with a good medium-roast Columbia and a proper conical burr grinder and you'll be impressing yourself with the quality of your at-home brew!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still great after almost 3 years!

I got this 3 years ago and I am absolutely thrilled with it! This machine is a game-changer for any coffee lover. Here are a few reasons why I give it 5 stars:
- Quality of Coffee: The quality of the coffee is outstanding. It consistently brews rich, flavorful coffee with a perfect crema every time. It's like having a coffee shop right in my own kitchen!
- Ease of Use: The machine is incredibly easy to operate. You click on a few buttons, and you can have a delicious cup of coffee ready in no time. It’s perfect for busy mornings when I need my caffeine fix fast.
- Durability: I've been using this machine daily for 3 years now, and it still works just as well as the day I bought it. I have to deep-clean it every time after 500 uses. The machine lets you know when that time comes. The process is really simple.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase... Oh, and it looks good too. The design looks great on my countertop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little espresso machine
Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2024

I happen to love strong coffee, even though I drink decaf, and have long wanted an expresso machine but not willing to pay the big bucks for one. When I found this one at less than 100 and well reviewed, i decided to take the plunge. I can't speak to how this will hold up in the long run, but I have had it for a few weeks now and LOVE it. I can only get pre-ground Starbucks dark roast decaf locally, which needs to be ground just a little more to work perfectly in this expresso machine to get great full-bodied double-shots. The only difficulty I had at first was that the machine - which is pretty lightweight - had to be held with two hands to get the coffee in place, but that seems to be less of an issue as I use it more. I appreciate the small size and relatively attractive configuration, as it sits on my countertop 24/7. The frother seems to work well, though I am just now getting a hand at that aspect of making expresso (used to just heat up some milk in the microwave for my coffee and use a whisk. lol. no comparison to the the frother!) The plastic tamper is probably less than optimal and I may purchase a stainless one at some point. So far I have been able to tamp the grounds in pretty tightly with the plastic one, though. Very happy with this little expresso machine. Better than what I get from coffee shops!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter machine
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2023

this is a very well made starter espresso machine. I believe it's the best in this price range
it functions very well and is built well too. I took off the bottom plate and saw that the boiler and pump are all metal and the connecting hoses are all food-grade silicon. however they did route the hoses right over the power board, make sure to plug this machine into a GFCI outlet
the chassis is plastic with very thin metal plates crimped around it. it gives the machine a premium "commercial" look however that is literally only skin-deep.
the portafilter is all metal. hot coffee won't be pouring through a plastic nozzle like on many other cheap espresso machines
the only issue with this machine is the filter baskets that come with it. this machine uses "pressurized filter baskets" what this means is the bottom of the basket is closed except for a pin-hole that allows the coffee to come through. the reason this machine uses this is it makes building pressure very easy. you can see this if you put in a filter basket without any grounds in it, the gauge shows the machine build pressure into right about the middle of the espresso range. in my opinion this completely defeats the purpose of having a machine with a gauge on it.
on the plus side this makes brewing a cup extremely easy, you don't have to worry about grind size / tamping pressure / bean quality in order to get a good espresso with a good crema
if you wish you can buy normal 51mm filter baskets. the machine didn't have any issues getting up to pressure with a normal filter basket
the hot water / steam wand also works great. one issue I did run into with the wand was when dispensing hot water. the machine is only able to produce maybe 2 cups of hot water before the pump / boiler turns off and needs a short break. if you need alot of hot water this machine will struggle a bit
overall this is great for your first machine or maybe something to keep at the office
